Fishing is the key to having tons of foodīuild a fishing rod as soon as possible, as fishing is a free source of tons of food. You won’t want to end your trip early just to trek back to the ship for food, so keep it on you. Some later islands have cooked food tucked away inside to help tide you over, but there’s no reliable source of food and water. If you run out of clean water or cooked food, you’ll eventually die of starvation or dehydration, so you should set sail for more materials way before that happens. Don’t stay at random islands for too longĮarly on, it may be tempting to stay awhile at a random island, but you will need more planks and plastic to maintain your tools and fuel. Once the shark is dead, you can harvest it for meat and swim around freely. It will return until the bait is eaten, so you should be able to defeat the shark before the bait is gone.

The shark will bite the bait, allowing you to get a free hit on it before it swims off. You can kite the shark with a spear, but you can also use Shark Bait to take it down easily. Material like seaweed and scrap can be found underwater in reefs around random islands. It can be easy to forget to do this, so make sure you’re using the table as you explore new environments. You need to feed one of each material to the Research Table to learn new recipes using said material. Remember to give items to your Research Table You’ll need to sail around to find basic building materials (planks, plastic, and palm leaves), so don’t worry if you need to explore more before hitting up any of the story islands.
